Everyone was getting hot under the collar in Dartmouth this weekend as local Pubs and Restaurants battled it out in what's sure to become the annual Chilli Cook Off!
Heralding the start of the run up to Food Festival in October, this weekend saw the 2nd annual Chilli Cook Off, competed for by local Pubs, Restaurants and even a plucky private entry Jenny Koo, who won the judges Best Vegetarian Chilli award.
Who Was Competing?
Entries from other hostelries included The Dolphin Dartmouth, Market House Inn, Royal Castle Hotel, Royal Dart Yacht Club, Browns Hotel, Dartmouth Yacht Club, Namoh Sauces, Yarn Bar and Radius 7, with The Royal Castle taking the judges award for best Meat Chilli.
But being an inclusive sort of place, it was't only left to the official judges to decide who were crowned winners, us, the general public had their say too!
There were lots of local people enjoying the sunshine, tasting the chilli and enjoying music by Antonia and her band and we were all invited to declare our favourite chilli in an anonymous ballot, leaving The Royal Dart Yacht Club the people's favourite Meat Chilli and Yarn Bar for the Vegetarian.
You'll Be Spoilt For Choice
Having tasted all the entries, I can confirm the judges angst at having had a hard time choosing their winners as the calibre of all entries was exceptional, proving you'll be spoilt for choice when deciding where to eat when you visit Dartmouth this year but don't let that put you off as wherever you decide you'll be treated to something amazing!
So thanks to all the contestants and the fantastic sponsors Michael Suttons Cellar, Salcombe Gin, Savills, who helped make it all possible and we look forward to more from The Food Festival throughout the year.
If you've never been to Dartmouth Food Festival before, this year would be a great time to come along and if you want to know more, there's everything you need to know at The Dartmouth Food Festival official website.
